Term 3 Week 4

Our art activity last Friday was based around our gingerbread man theme. We had to follow a series of instructions to complete a gingerbread man glyph. We also used our fine motor skills to cut and paste the details. After we followed the instructions we looked at the gingerbread men and worked out whose each one was. The children also wrote a sentence to go with their gingerbread man collage creations.
Room 14 is getting very clever at listening for sounds and recording them. Look at how neat our handwriting is too. Tino pai tamariki ma!
Our word of the week this week is 'like'. Today during Investigation time we tasted some food and wrote a list of food that we like and don't like. We then counted the things that we liked and didn't like. This was a statistical investigation and also helped us with our handwriting.
Another inspiration from this weeks provocation was some students created their very own 'I like' books.

The students created some bean bag throwing games during investigation time. It was great the way students took turns and agreed on the rules of the games.
Room 14 have really been enjoying their Kapa Haka sessions.
We continued with our swimming lessons this week.
For Friday arts the students created an Andy Warhol inspired kind hands picture. Firstly the students created a background using four different coloured dyes. Next, they drew around their hands and cut out handprints from four different coloured pieces of paper. The last part was to add a paint hand print to their coloured cut out hands.

Term 1, Week 7

This week Room 14 have been focussing on our school expectation to 'Be Kind'. We have looked at ways to use kind hands, kind feet and kind words. Have a look at our wonderful displays outside our classroom door. We have also focussed some of our writing on being kind. We have enjoyed lots of literacy learning during our investigations this week. The children have also showed some great design and creativity during Investigation times.  We have enjoyed hearing them reflect on their design process as well. On Wednesday for Footsteps dance, we were introduced to partner dancing.  The children did a great job of working together with their partners. On Wednesday, we also read one of our favourite stories about Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons.  We then made up own button number stories about Pete's buttons popping off. Term 2 Week 6

Week 6 was another short week with the Monday being a public holiday This weeks word of the week was 'like'. During one of our writing sessions, the students drew and then wrote the names of foods they like to eat. This linked in nicely with what we have been leaning on the Life Education truck. During investigation times this week students have been learning literacy, numeracy and te reo through our natural resource equipment. This week we started our first of four football sessions run by Kelly Sports. During this weeks session we looked at fundamental movement skills, how to dribble a ball and how to pass a ball. These were all taught through fun interactive games.  This week we had our last visit to the Life Education truck. We learnt about how our body digests food today and the importance of healthy eating. On Friday we continued with our PMP programme.

Term 4 weeks 3,4 & 5

Over the last three weeks we have had lots of fun learning through our weekly provocations. In Week Three, o ur provocation was Japan, because the World Cup Rugby was being held there. Students got the chance to try on a Japanese yukata (a lightweight cotton kimono) during ionvestigation time. The students also looked at numeracy and literacy through Japanese numeral and letter writing. The students also took part in craft making paper koinobori - a Japanese carp flag - which is flown on Boys Day in Japan. Week Four's provocation was the five senses (sight, taste, hear, touch, smell). During the week we looked at fireworks and created some art and craft pictures. The students also investigated a variety of musical instruments throughout the week. We investigated touch and smell through soap flake foam in the outside space.
