Term 1 Week 1
Room 14 were very lucky to welcome 14 brand new students to Tawa school as well as welcoming back 5 super students from last year.
We started the year with a pōwhiri to welcome all our new students, families and teachers to the school.
Every Monday afternoon this term we will have swimming to help the students build up their water confidence.
The students used investigation time this week to form new friendships and to discover their new environment.
On Tuesday we created a cross curricular art piece. Firstly the students had to use their maths counting skills to get the correct number of green circles to match the letters in their first name. They then practiced their literacy skills by writing each letter onto the body of the caterpillar. They finished off the picture by adding a red head and extra details like legs, face and antennae. We then looked at further maths skills by showing the number of letters in our name on a tens frame and finding the correct numeral.
On Tuesday the students did a self portrait, painted a unique background using pastel and dye.
It was great to have the principal Mr D come in and join us on Thursday morning for some music and dance.
On Friday morning to get our bodies and brains warmed up for the day, we went to the hall for an active circuit. This circuit was designed to improve students balance, co-ordination and fitness.
